End of season 1
My first winter as an XC skier is over. The first week of April we headed to the snow for one last time this season. This time Holzgau in Austria was the destination. With a short daily commute to the Warth-Schröcken ski area. There was no shortage of snow. Only the weather was not cooperating. We had just about everything in our week there. Cold and snow, cold and rain and very hot (up to 14 degrees). Fortunately, we also had 1 perfect ski day with cold temperatures and nice sun. But every day we were able to be on the slopes. So, we're not complaining.
The main focus of this week was on skiing with the family. But besides that, I did manage to do two nice training sessions on the cross-country skis. The first was immediately a tough one. It snowed hard that morning. And the trails were soon full of fresh snow. Which obviously did not help gliding. The second training session was in perfect conditions. Gliding went well and I was able to work on my diagonal technique perfectly on the light course. Lovely. Finally, we ended the holiday with our classic walk to "de brug".
Since August, I have been looking forward to the winter season. Eager to get on the xc skis. Unfortunately, I only managed it on two occasions. Once in the Tannheimertal. The second time was at the beginning of April. The weather conditions were not favourable at the other times it was possible. Nevertheless, I loved it and learned a lot. My cross-country ski instructor (Langlauf Lisa) was a very good instructor. She made me transition smoothly from roller skiing to cross-country skiing. Some of her tips really improved my technique so that I can now progress more smoothly on my XC skis as well as on the roller skis. I can only recommend her.
But so the season is now over. Not to worry, the new roller ski season is already around the corner. And some great challenges await there too. The preparation for Vasaloppet 2026 is in full swing. For now, I am on track to achieve this goal. Fingers crossed, and train on.
